Haemorrhoids (Piles)
My neighbour wants some advice on his ailment. He is 70 and having 2 small external piles which are harmless and useless developed since 4 years now getting little bigger size of a marble - it comes out when in toilet and goes in during wash up. He is scared to go for surgery.
He wants to find out if any medication is there oral, oinment, orlike giving an injection (to a hand without pain,) for it to shrink or vanish. How long will it take in hospital.opd? In G H Colombo to which unit he should go to etc .. Pls help!

Dear vjratne,
Haemorrhoids (piles) can be treated in many ways. Injection of an agent (sclerosent) directly in to the piles and band ligation can be done for less severe piles. When they are large and complicated surgery is the desired option.
You can go to closest government hospital OPD and you will be referred to a surgical specialty. General surgery is the unit that the patients are generally referred. First the patient need to be assessed and then the correct treatment path will be discussed.
This conditions are fairly common and there is not much of waiting these days.
